What we do

CWDR- Centre for Women’s Development and Research, was founded in 1993 by a team of women activists.  CWDR was formed out of the belief that women-managed organizations are best suited to address the gender specific problems that women face. CWDR is working to advance women in Tamil Nadu State. CWDR promotes women’s rights, leadership and empowerment through issue-based campaigns and community level activities.  CWDR’s field level interventions focus on three highly vulnerable groups of women: adolescent girls, single women, and domestic workers.

Specific objectives of CWDR are:

  • To organize programmes for the empowerment of women
  • To create awareness about gender issues
  • To create and strengthen education opportunities for girl children
  • To increase the incomes of poor women
  • To promote SRHR-Sexual Reproductive Health Rights of women and adolescent girls
  • To eliminate violence against women
  • To advocate for the human rights of women and girl children.

We will cover 23 villages in the Edaikazhinadu Panchayath of Tamil Nadu with this Challenge.
